Welcome to the seventeenth annual Green Mountain Film Festival. Here we are again; Mud season and the arrival of some the finest films from around the world and as our new byline declares… The World Comes To You! As always, our lineup includes a broad range of feature, documentary, short and animated films as well as engaging conversations with distinguished guests, and we are excited this year to continue what we started last year with several sneak previews of high profile films that will show only once (get your tickets early!).

Among those, of note, is a premium program with Bela Fleck, the internationally renowned banjo artist. Bela was commissioned last year to write a banjo concerto for the Nashville Symphony and a film was made chronicling the process. Bela will be here in person to talk about the film and to play a passage from the concerto. We have added the Montpelier High School auditorium to our venues this year to accommodate what will surely be a sell-out event. Additionally, Luis Guzman, the acclaimed actor and fellow Vermont resident will take part in an excerpt retrospective of many of his great films with a following Q&A. And Burlington’s own Spielpalast Cabaret is paired with the classic film Pandora’s Box.

We had a lot of great feedback on last year’s festival and we have adapted to suggestions and adopted changes to make your festival experience easier and more enjoyable. Our ticketing system continues to improve and you can purchase tickets: online from our easy-to-navigate festival website (www.gmffestival.org) starting March 3rd, by phone (802-262-3423) beginning March 8th and in person beginning March 10th at our new ticket office at 13 Main St., Montpelier (old Verizon storefront, courtesy of the Jacobs family).

The Green Mountain Film Festival is presented byFocus on Film a 30 year-old Central Vermont organization whose purpose is :-

  • to provide public film showings of cultural, social and historic interest;
  • to sponsor discussions of such films;
  • and to provide an opportunity for independent filmmakers to exhibit their works.
