Ever since The Buggles – Video Killed The Radio Star aired on MTV on August 1st, 1981, music videos have done their best to translate to a visual medium. At their worst – crass commercialism. At their best – groundbreaking, innovative, often experimental works of art that have launched the careers of much-lauded directors such as Spike Jonze, David Fincher and Michel Gondry. This selection features contemporary videos that push, bend and break the mold of the “music video.”
