The essence of design lies in its profound ability to affect how we think about and experience the world. This is a film series about architecture and design that will engage, provoke and inspire the community by exploring the impact and importance of design and beauty in our lives. We invite you to join us for thoughtful discussion and light refreshments in hopes that this creative gathering will broaden awareness, foster connections, spark new ideas, and ultimately build momentum towards positive action.

COAST MODERN
by Mike Bernard and Gaviin Froome 2012
USA, 55 minutes

Traveling along the Pacific North West coastline from LA to Vancouver, this relaxed journey takes us across three generations of Modernist architecture, all taking us back to the basics of true living – a sense of place, light, and a deep connection to the earth. Dion Neutra tells us that the way to live is to have ‘the comfort of being inside, yet you have the feeling of being outside’, and it is this established principle that contemporary Modernist architects are emulating and evolving today.

Lunafest Burlington:  6pm Reception, 7:30 Film screenings
Short films by, for, about women. This year’s featured short films include stories of reflection, hope and humor from around the world – treating such diverse subjects as – a winning basketball team of grandmothers in their ’70s – a high school wrestler from inner-city Brooklyn preparing for her first co-ed match – and a girl with a high-flying approach to dealing with her Tourette’s syndrome, among other compelling themes.

Special guests at the reception:

  • Hannah Dreissigacker - Hannah has just returned from her first Olympics – the U.S. Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia! Hannah hails from Morrisville and  competed as part of the U.S. Biathlon Team, of which she has been a member for the past two years. Hannah currently trains full-time with the Craftsbury Green Racing Project. She graduated from Dartmouth College in 2009, majoring in engineering, sustainable design and studio art. At Dartmouth, she served as captain of the women’s ski team and also helped launch the college’s Sustainable Living Center. Come meet an Olympian and a wonderful role model for young  women today!
