Under pressure from his family, his producers, and the censorship office, a young Burmese director struggles to make his feature film in Money Has Four Legs. This delightful satire cleverly uses the film-within-a-film trope to lightly take aim at Myanmar’s strict censorship while also recognizing film’s place in Burmese culture. One comic mishap after another ensues until his own life hilariously mirrors the cops-and-robbers tale in his screenplay. This gleefully inventive film melds its local surroundings with fantastical elements of surprise, adventure, and visual flair, offering an illuminating street-level view of Myanmar. ~Orly Yadin
