Despite its heavily connotative title, Luzifer is not a horror film, at least not in the usual way of jump scares and gore. But a sense of menace does pervade the story from beginning to end. A mother and her neurodivergent adult son, embodied with feral abandon by Susanne Jensen and Franz Rogowski, have forsaken society for a remote existence in the Austrian Alps, where they practice a form of religious fanaticism grounded in self-denial and kinship with nature. One day, a drone appears, disturbing their fragile solitude with its mechanized whirring. As these robotic whirlybirds crisscross the sky surveying the land for ski resort development, the mother and son find themselves in a desperate struggle to maintain their life of austerity and seclusion. ~TW
