Electric Eye presents First of the Month Films

Weaving a tapestry of 1930s New York artists—Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Orson Welles, and John Houseman among them—Cradle Will Rock is one of director Tim Robbins’ most heartfelt lefty chronicles. At the height of the Great Depression, the Federal Theatre Project brings low-cost theater to millions across America. All the while, the threat of anti-communist crusaders looms, sowing dissent and paranoia among the community as they try to orchestrate a radical new play called The Cradle Will Rock, penned by Marc Blitzstein, produced by Houseman, and directed by Welles.

Robbins assembled an unbelievable cast to bring this world to life, including Bill Murray, Hank Azaria, Jack Black, Rubén Blades, Joan and John Cusack, Cary Elwes, Paul Giamatti, Philip Baker Hall, Vanessa Redgrave, Susan Sarandon, John Turturro, Emily Watson, the list goes on. Oh, plus John Carpenter as William Randolph Hearst.

This screening welcomes Cradle Will Rock executive producer and assistant director Allan Nicholls, who will participate in a Q&A after the film.
