Electric Eye presents First of the Month Films
We are pleased to welcome multidisciplinary artist Erika Senft Miller to share two of her recent short film projects and participate in a Q&A after the featured screening.
Stranded after another squabble with her husband while driving across the Mojave Desert, lonely German tourist Jasmin Münchgstettner (Marianne Sagebrecht) stumbles on the rundown Bagdad Cafe, the most desolate motel on Earth. This low-down watering hole is inhabited by a number of salty characters, including shipwrecked Hollywood set painter Rudi (Jack Palance). Appalled by the state of the cafe, and not finding it up to the demanding standards of German cleanliness, she gets to work revitalizing this place seemingly forgotten by the world, much to the chagrin of no-nonsense proprietor Brenda (CCH Pounder) and her trusty rifle. But the longer she stays, the more she finds herself changed by her newfound surroundings, and the more she bonds with the makeshift family she’s discovered in the unlikeliest of locations.
