A gripping eco-thriller documentary that examines biodiversity loss, its effect on humanity, and the solutions that inspire hope for a more sustainable future, the Oscar-nominated Racing Extinction is ideal for student groups and classes interested in Environmental Studies, Biodiversity, Sustainability, Activism, or Nonfiction Filmmaking.
Created by the Oceanic Preservation Society and the Oscar-winning filmmakers of 2009’s The Cove, Racing Extinction employs a series of eye-opening investigative sequences – often using clandestine and guerilla-style approaches – to expose a range of industrial and commercial practices that are having devastating effects on the environment and ecosystems across the planet. Documenting both the deadly consequences of the international wildlife trade and the alarming connections between carbon emissions, ocean acidification, and species extinction, the filmmakers collaborate with a collective of activists and artists who use cutting-edge technologies to bring these urgent matters to light.
Following the screening, students will have the opportunity to engage with director and former National Geographic photographer Louie Psihoyos during a Skype discussion.
