It’s February, 1977. Having fallen behind on his mortgage, aspiring Indianapolis entrepreneur Tony Kiritsis (Bill Skarsgård) finds himself on the short end of a deal with his merciless lender, edged out of a commercial property he’d dreamed of developing. And he is desperate for justice.

What ensues is a tense and darkly comic hostage story—one that mirrors acclaimed director Gus Van Sant’s own cult classic media frenzy crime movie To Die For—where Kiritsis takes Meridian Mortgage Company President Richard Hall Jr. (Dacre Montgomery) at shotgun point to his apartment rigged with explosives and demands an apology from company owner Richard Hall Sr. (Al Pacino).

Featuring captivating, scenery gnawing performances from Skarsgård, Montgomery, Colman Domingo (as a fabulously suave local DJ), and police procedural Grand Poobah Pacino (bringing the Dog Day Afternoon reference right to the surface), Van Sant’s latest diligently recreates the strange, fascinating true crime story that made an unhinged nobody into an eccentric outlaw folk hero.
