“A small miracle of a film.” – The Guardian
This timely, beautiful tale of a mother and her two teenage daughters trying to find their identities, while being pulled away from their culture and from each other, is inspired by the life and poetry of North African writer Fatima Elayoubi. Screenwriter/director Philippe Faucon lets the audience into their worlds — the world of French society, the Moroccan subculture, university life and the tumultuous yet all too relatable realm of the mother-daughter relationship. Fatima works two jobs to support her rebellious daughter in high school and her dutiful daughter in medical school — until she is forced to look at her own life as all three women question if their dreams are their own, or if they are just following what their friends, family or culture expect of them. Faucon brings the audience close to his powerful actors, allowing this simple story to transform into a universal, emotional experience. ~JS
