There’s nothing like a first crush — the first stirrings of attraction, the exhilaration and tension of being newly smitten. Couple that with attending one’s first political rally — the rush of passion and fervor all around, that sense of collective and personal turbulence — and you’ve got the makings of a fraught and combustible coming-of-age tale. Fourteen-year-old Marwann, a charmingly rakish French-Tunisian Parisian, is more concerned with goofing around than with the social upheavals taking place both near and far. But then, while trying to impress the girl he likes, he winds up at a demonstration where a journalist snaps a picture of him that appears in the following day’s newspapers. Before long, Marwann has become an unwitting face of the Arab Spring and the center of attention at school. He soon finds himself questioning how fully he should embrace this newfound identity and what it reveals about his family roots and origins — and whether he can reconcile his mixed intentions. My Revolution is a smart, endearing and timely story. It reflects the director’s belief that “where you belong is where you’re loved, and the languages we speak make us who we are.”  ~SJ
