A narrow and deep focus on a theme or films from a specific region or country. This initiative began in 2013 as a means of bringing great films from the countries of many of the New American communities in Vermont, to foster a greater understanding of our diverse cultures. In 2015 it expanded to encompass other types of films made by the mosaic of cultures and persuasions we live in. In 2016, the focus was on films from the Middle East. In 2017 we presented two Global Roots festivals: Cinema from Quebec and Food and Music. In 2018 the festival focused on Disability and Film. In 2022 the festival showcased Indigenous Cinema from around the world.

The 2023 Global Roots FF takes place February 16-19, showcasing a range of Best International Feature film submissions to the 2023 Academy Awards.
