Festival Program

VTIFF is thrilled to announce this year’s Global Roots Film Festival lineup, featuring a dozen films from around the word, all of them officially nominated by their country for Oscar consideration as Best International Feature Film.

From creative documentaries to sweeping historical epics, from contemporary body-horror to razor-sharp satire, from eco-disaster to harrowing immigration stories, GRFF offers an incredibly wide range of films.

This year’s festival shines a light on a younger generation of women filmmakers. Of the dozen films, seven are directed by women, and four of those are first-time features (another two are second features).

We’re also extremely excited to offer a sneak-peak at our new venue, The Screening Room, a 35-seat micro-cinema located in VTIFF’s offices on the first floor of Main Street Landing. While it doesn’t officially open until March, The Screening Room will open its doors for the first time ever to show two festival films, Smoke Sauna Sisterhood (Estonia) and The Mother of All Lies (Morocco). Tickets for these films will, obviously, be very limited.

Tickets are on sale now.

(NOTE: Purchasing a Festival Pass is no guarantee of entry to specific films. You must still book films individually after purchasing your pass.)

Thank you to the individuals that have adopted films in this festival! If you are interested in adopting a film in this festival (only two are left!), or future screenings, email gail@vtiff.org to learn more. Benefits include two free tickets, your name announced at the beginning of the screening, and your name listed as a sponsor in the print and digital brochure.

We can’t wait to see you at the festival!
