Join VTIFF and support independent cinema!

Member support is an essential part of sustaining VTIFF year round. Contributions help support our annual 10-day fall festival, monthly screenings in the Film House at Main Street Landing, weekly screenings in The Screening Room, and the Made Here Film Festival for regional filmmakers.

VTIFF has grown a lot in the last few years and we’re updating our membership program to match all the new programming that we have added. Starting this year, we are doubling the number of monthly screenings in the Film House and, after a successful first year, we’re increasing the number of movies we show in our microcinema The Screening Room. All this plus we continue to present the hottest international independent cinema in our flagship Vermont International Film Festival every October.

VTIFF members get discounts on screenings, festival passes, reserved seating, free popcorn, and more. Plus, you get the added bonus of helping us in our mission to cultivate a thriving filmgoing scene in our community.

Membership FAQs

Why did VTIFF update its membership structure?

Our membership program is about 10 years old now. In that time it has changed very little in cost, and the benefits have not been updated in any substantial way. The last price change was in early 2020, and only affected one tier of membership. VTIFF has changed quite a bit in that time, especially in this last year. 

With the introduction of The Screening Room last March, and with the addition of a second screening in the Film House each month, we are updating our membership program in a way that makes sense for both members and VTIFF.

If I have questions about memberships, who should I contact?

Please feel free to reach out to us with any and all questions or comments about VTIFF memberships. You can email us at support@vtiff.org or call the office on weekdays 9 am-5 pm at 802-660-2600.

I am a monthly member. When will my member benefits change?

The new cost and benefits will automatically apply once your membership payment processes for the first time after February 14. Once that first new charge is processed, you will see the change in available benefits when you book your next film.

I am a yearly member. When will my member benefits change?

When your membership is due for renewal, the new benefits will take effect. At this time, you will see the change in available benefits when you book your next film. If you would like to upgrade to another level of membership before your renewal date, or move to the new benefits immediately, please reach out for assistance. If your next renewal date is June 20, 2025 or later, your membership benefits will automatically switch over to the new benefits at that time. You will not pay the new membership price until it is time for you to renew.

If I have already booked tickets for an upcoming screening, can I apply the new member discounts to these purchases?

The change will not apply to any previously booked tickets, and we cannot exchange/refund any tickets already purchased. 

Do member ticket discounts apply to student tickets? 

Student rates for movies in The Screening Room, monthly screenings, and festival screenings are generally half price at $6 per ticket. So, additional member discounts do not apply to student ticket prices. 

Can I give my two free fall festival tickets to my friend? 

Each membership level includes two free tickets for the fall festival to use as you wish. You can use these yourself, or book tickets for a guest. You can forward the tickets once they are booked.

Do members still get free admission to monthly screenings?

We have updated our membership program and now Friend and Patron members get discounted tickets to both monthly screenings and The Screening Room. The discount depends on your level of membership. Members at the All Access level and above get free admission to the 22 monthly screenings (double the previous amount as of 2025) held in the Film House throughout the year.

How can I pay for my membership?

You can choose to pay one annual sum or in monthly installments. You can become a member using a credit card by adding the membership to your cart and following the checkout instructions. At this time, you will be prompted to create an account so that you can access your tickets and purchase discounted member tickets in the future. 

If you are already a member, you can login and follow the instructions to renew your membership from your account. 

If you prefer to pay for your membership by check, you can make this out to Vermont International Film Festival and mail the check to P.O. Box 483, Burlington, VT 05402.

Can I purchase a membership for someone else?

Yes. VTIFF memberships make great gifts! When checking out, you will be asked to indicate who the membership is for and you can simply fill in that person’s name and information. 

If we have a dual membership, do we get one festival pass or two?

Dual memberships at the Patron level and above get two passes to the Vermont International Film Festival, one for each member.

How can I get a seat cover?

Members at the Gold and Superstar level get reserved seating at festival and monthly screenings in the Film House. When you sign up for this level of membership, we will ask if there is a seat that you would like to claim and then we’ll secure a seat cover just for you. Please note that if you have reserved seats, we ask that you arrive at the theater 10 minutes before showtime, so that we can have an accurate count of the available space in the Film House and can release tickets for high-demand shows.

Do Screening Room discounts apply to special events?

Membership ticket discounts apply to almost all events in The Screening Room. Some exceptions apply, such as when we partner with organizations or artists to show one-off special presentations. In the event that membership discounts do not apply to a particular event in The Screening Room, this will be clearly indicated on the event page on the website and during checkout.

Can I still scan my membership card at the door to get admission to screenings?

All Access, Gold, and Superstar members get free admission to monthly screenings. For members at these levels, when attending a monthly screening, or screenings during the Vermont International FIlm Festival, you can simply present your membership card at the door to get into the theater. This does not apply to movies in The Screening Room, however you do get a 50% discount on tickets for screenings in our microcinema.

I am a Gold member. How do I get my free popcorn?

Gold and Superstar members are entitled to one complimentary small popcorn at each screening you attend (dual members can choose to get either two small or one large popcorn). Simply present your membership card at concessions before your film and we’ll gladly serve up your freshly-popped popcorn. Enjoy!
