Global Roots Film Festival

March 3rd – 6th 2022

Program

This annual festival takes a narrow and deep focus on a theme or films from a specific region or country. This initiative began in 2013 as a means of bringing great films from the countries of many of the New American communities in Vermont, to foster a greater understanding of our diverse cultures. In 2015 it expanded to encompass other types of films made by the mosaic of cultures and persuasions we live in. In 2016, the focus was on films from the Middle East. In 2017 we presented two Global Roots festivals: Cinema from Quebec and Food and Music. In 2018 the festival focused on Disability and Film.

The 2022 edition of Global Roots Film Festival focuses on Indigenous films and filmmakers from around the world. Download the festival App and create your own schedule!

The festival will take place at Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center, with some shows at ECHO, Leahy Center for Lake Champlain in Burlington and at The Savoy Theater in Montpelier.

We recognize the Abenaki people who continue to live in N’dakinna (Homeland) since long before Europeans arrived in North America. VTIFF acknowledges that we do our work on the unceded or unsurrendered Abenaki land. We commit to policies and practices of cultural equity to benefit current and future generations.

You may also wish to learn more about the Abenaki People of N’dakinna in Northern New England and Quebec. Below are some useful websites:

Tickets/Passes

Passes and tickets are on sale for members and Festival Pass purchasers.

Individual tickets to the General Public will be on sale February 17th. Proof of vaccination required.

Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center:

The festival box office at Main Street Landing will be open daily during the festival, one hour before the first show of the day. The box office is located on the 3rd floor. You will enter through the Lake Lobby on the Battery Street side of the building. Once inside you will take a left and follow the signs to the box office.

We strongly encourage you to book in advance, online at vtiff.org, in order to promote the most contactless experience for filmgoers, staff and volunteers. We will also be going cashless, and will only accept credit/debit cards at the box office, membership and merch tables. Note that we do not pass on web ticketing fees to you when you order online, so the price is the same when you purchase online in advance.

Ticket sales will go offline 30 minutes before a show starts and will then only be available in person, if not sold out. If you are a festival pass holder you can provide your pass QR code to be scanned at the theater door, but note you still may want to reserve your ticket online in advance due to limited capacity/sell outs. All Access members do not need to reserve in advance, but need to be seated 10 minutes before the screenings starts to guarantee a seat, unless tickets to that screening have been booked ahead of time.

Ticket Prices:

General Admission…………$12/$10

Student w/ID…………………$6

Festival Pass*…………………$50/$40/$25

* Includes admission to all in-person and virtual screenings. Does not apply to screenings at the Savoy Theater.
