VTIFF is pleased to announce the 2023 Vermont International Film
Festival, October 20-29. Now in its 38th year, the largest film festival in Vermont takes place in
Downtown Burlington with additional screenings at the University of Vermont and Essex Resort
& Spa.
We will be presenting 50+ films of all genres and styles from around the world and the U.S.A.,
as well as hosting filmmakers and special guests, and offering receptions, workshops, lectures,
panels and other special events.

FOOD, FILM  & FRIENDSHIP (FFF)

Sunday, October 29, at Essex Resort & Spa – the last day of the Vermont International Film Festival (VTIFF).  A first of its kind, a partnership between Québec and Vermont, celebrating the best of food from both regions and accompanied by films from Québec.

Burlington, Vt.: (September 20): The Vermont International Film Festival (VTIFF) is delighted to announce the first ever collaboration with the Québec Government Office in Boston and VTIFF with a focus on film and food. Eight top chefs from Vermont and Québec will be devising dishes and two tasting menus inspired by two films, and benefiting from the best of local produce of the two areas.

Lunch and dinner will be served, each meal accompanied by a film. The audience will have the benefit of a round table with the chefs at the end of the screening, with the opportunity to hear about what inspired them and to ask questions. Four renowned chefs from Québec will come to spend a couple of days with four equally renowned chefs from Vermont, sharing their culinary knowledge and cooking up a storm. Tickets can be purchased individually for lunch or dinner, or a Passport can be purchased for both.

Full program of the 2023 Global Roots Film Festival announced.

April 16-19, at Main Street Landing Performing Arts Center, Burlington

The annual Global Roots Film Festival returns this year with a focus on International Feature Submissions to the 2023 Academy Awards.

Taking place over 4 days, the festival will showcase 11 films from 4 continents, some of which have been nominated, others that have been shortlisted and few that have been neither but are equally excellent. Each of the 11 films in this festival speaks for a different culture and way of thinking. The full program and line up is now live on VTIFF.org.

Unreleased Meat Loaf Film Epic Provides Rare 1980s Experience in Essex

January 25 Screening to Benefit Vermont Music and Film Nonprofits

BURLINGTON, VT January 5, 2023: An extraordinarily rare screening of the critically admired yet unreleased film Dead Ringer starring Meat Loaf is planned for January 25 in Essex. The 1982 film has been shown only three or four times since it was produced 40 years ago. This is a nearly once in a generation opportunity to see the film, inspired by the popularity of a sold-out Vermont International Film Festival screening at a smaller venue in October, 2022. The screening is a fundraiser for two Vermont arts organizations, Big Heavy World and The Vermont International Film Festival.

The 2020 Vermont International Film Festival is proud to host its guest of honor, Charles Burnett, who will be attending the festival with two of his classic films: To Sleep With Anger and Killer of Sheep. Mr. Burnett is the recipient of the VTIFF Award for Outstanding Contribution to American Cinema.

Charles Burnett is a writer-director whose work has received extensive honors. Born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, his family soon moved to the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles. Burnett studied creative writing at UCLA before entering the University’s graduate film program. His thesis project, Killer of Sheep (1977), won accolades at film festivals and a critical devotion; in 1990, it was among the first titles named to the Library of Congress’ National Film Registry.

Korean directors Hirokazu Kore-eda (Best Director at Cannes Film Festival for Broker and VTIFF’s choice for Opening Night film)and Park Chan-wook (Decision to Leave), India’s Payal Kapadia recipient of Best Documentary at Cannes for their film A Night of Knowing Nothing, Lukas Dhont’s Grand Prix winner Close, Mounia Akl’s Costa Brava Lebanon (Audience Award winner at the BFI London Film Festival), Jerzi Skolimowski’s award-winning film EO, Alejandro Loayza Grisi’s Utama – Grand Jury Prize recipient – World Cinema Dramatic competition at Sundance, A specially curated program Queer Experimental Shorts, and much much more.
